Spotlight: National Injury Prevention Day
National Injury Prevention Day (NIPD) is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about injury prevention and promoting safety in our communities. Established in 2020, organizations across the country come together on Nov. 18 to share knowledge, resources, and strategies for preventing injuries and violence.
There are many ways to participate in National Injury Prevention Day:
Get your institution, local landmarks, and businesses to light up green for National Injury Prevention Day
Host a safety fair or educational event in your community
Share information about injury prevention on social media using #BeInjuryFree
Partner with local organizations to promote safety
Advocate for injury prevention policies in your community
Educate others about how to prevent injuries
Head to the NIPD website to plan your activities using the 30 Days of Action guide (checklists and ideas for participation) and register for the kickoff webinar (Nov. 12) and the post-event fireside chat (Nov. 20).
Registration Open for MIPA Virtual Conference; Call for Posters
Join us on Dec. 11 for this year’s Midwest Injury Prevention Alliance Conference, as injury professionals from states in Federal Health and Human Services Region V (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin) gather to work toward reducing injury and violence related death and disability. This year’s theme—Connectedness: Staying True to Our Mission of Safety and Prevention—will highlight topics that inspire, inform, and demonstrate the power of partnerships, the passion behind programs that serve individuals and communities, and the impact of policy in shaping the future of injury and violence prevention across our states. The cost is free, but registration is required.
We are also hosting an interactive live Poster Exhibit during the conference. We welcome posters from students and professionals that showcase research, practice innovations, cross-sector collaborations, and interactive tools. Presentations will take place on an interactive virtual exhibit floor during the conference. Abstracts are due 11/7/25. Learn more here.

Coming soon to your inbox: a new social media carousel on water bead safety! The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recently moved to regulate these products, but many parents and caregivers are still unaware of the risks of water beads. We’re putting the final touches on a new carousel you can use to share safety tips with the communities you serve. As a member, you’ll get the link as soon as it’s ready.
