Monthly Spotlight: Consumer Federation of America

Summer is the primary season for ATV injuries, so it’s the perfect time to spotlight the Consumer Federation of America (CFA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the consumer interest through research, advocacy, and education. CFA tracks and reports on injuries related to ATVs (and other products) and then uses that data to create safety campaigns and advocate for improved safety regulations. CFA also protects children and families by sharing information on topics like financial issues, food safety, and privacy concerns.

CFA has worked with Prevent Child Injury on several campaigns, and we’re grateful for their expertise and leadership for safer consumer products. Visit the CFA website for more information and resources, and follow them on X, Facebook, Medium, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

Webinar: Test a New Virtual Tool: Plan and Implement Protective Extreme Heat Interventions
Date/Time: July 1, 1:00 PM ET

Join NACCHO and the University of Washington REACH Center for a free webinar about CHaRT, a tool to reduce health risks associated with extreme heat. CHaRT can be used by local health departments to assess and plan for extreme heat events in the regions they serve. CHaRT is an online tool that provides data on heat-health risks at a  local scale for both historical and future conditions. It can provide tailored risk reduction activities based on local factors, and information about the efficacy, timing and cost of each intervention.

At the webinar, presenter Jeremy Hess will discuss an opportunity for health departments to participate in a research trial on CHaRT. The research trial will help UW researchers learn more about the tool’s effectiveness in helping local health departments prepare for heat. More information and registration here.

Event: Rural Road Safety Awareness Week
Date/Time: July 14–18,m2025

The 2025 RRSAW awareness campaign’s overall theme is, “Post Crash Care: Big League Safety.” In 2022, 42,514 people died in traffic crashes, with 42 percent of those crash victims being alive when first responders arrived at the scene. Recognizing that medical care can prevent injuries from becoming fatal, a post-crash care lens identifies a clear opportunity to preserve life at the scene of a crash by applying medical care and related services.

For more information about Rural Road Safety Awareness Week, visit the National Center for Rural Road Safety’s RRSAW campaign page.  The campaign will use the hashtag #RRSAW2025. Assets will be available in July online at ruralsafetycenter.org.
