Member Spotlight

Featured Member: The University of Washington Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center
The University of Washington (UW) Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center’s (HIPRC) mission is to reduce the harm and suffering from injury and violence in all people’s lives and across the lifespan. Founded in 1987, the HIPRC is a worldwide leader in injury and violence research, outreach, education, and training. The HIPRC is one of nine CDC-funded Injury Control Research Centers across the United States and is located at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center campus.

The HIPRC conducts research, trains scientists, educates public health practitioners, and implements prevention programs to achieve injury-related health equity across the lifespan. Their primary areas of research include injury care, global injury, safe & active transport, traumatic brain injury, violence prevention, and firearm safety.

As a new initiative, the HIPRC created a digital resource center. The resource center contains materials that address injury prevention topics with parents, community members, and caregivers in mind. These materials raise awareness and provide clear, concise messaging on how to prevent specific kinds of injury. In addition, the HIPRC has recently partnered with researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Injury Violence Prevention Center to launch a Firearm Storage Maps toolkit. The toolkit covers best practices, tips, and lessons learned about temporary, voluntary, and out-of-home firearm storage.

Please keep up with what's new from the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center by following them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and learning more on their website. Thank you for your dedication to furthering the field of injury prevention, HIPRC!
