Featured Member: National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS)
Celebrating 25 years of preventing childhood injuries, the National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) is an advocate for children’s health and safety in agricultural work and rural environments. As part of the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, NCCRAHS has led research and development of intervention strategies and resources to help children stay safer on farms and in other agricultural and rural settings. The center offers safety workshops, webinars, educational materials, and more, including the website CultivateSafety.org, which provides easy access to agricultural safety information and resources for farmers, ranchers, supervisors, and the media. NCCRAHS is one of eleven agricultural centers funded by the CDC and the only one dedicated to childhood injury prevention. September is Baby Safety Month, sponsored annually by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). This year, JPMA is helping educate parents and caregivers on the safe selection and use of juvenile products, while encouraging those around us to become safety ambassadors.

National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to help citizens prepare for and stay safer during natural disasters. This year’s national public service announcements are being developed and will be released throughout the country this September to help get preparedness information into the hands of those who live in underserved communities.


Event: Sports Eye Safety Month
Hosted by: Prevent Blindness

More than 25,000 people seek treatment for sports-related eye injuries each year. The good news is that almost all of these injuries can be prevented. Whatever your game, whatever your age, you need to protect your eyes!


Event: National Suicide Prevention Week
Hosted by: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Join the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as they make strides in saving lives, and bringing hope, one step at a time, to those affected by suicide.


Event: Concussion Awareness Day
Date/Time: September 16, 2022
By raising awareness of the importance of recognizing a concussion, treating it appropriately, and supporting the injured we can positively impact lives across the country. National Concussion Awareness Day ® is a chance for health care practitioners, teachers, coaches, and parents to connect and discuss baseline testing, signs and symptoms, and the social and emotional issues that can result from mild traumatic brain injury.


Event: Child Passenger Safety Week/National Seat Check Saturday
Hosted by: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
Date/Time: September 18-24, 2022
Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children. On average, two children under 13 were killed and an estimated 374 were injured every day in 2019 while riding in cars, SUVs, pickups, and vans. In honor of Child Passenger Safety Week, NHTSA and the Ad Council launched a new series of public service ads (PSAs) that urge parents and caregivers to protect their child’s future at every stage of life, by making sure they secure them in the correct car seat for their age, height, and weight.


Event: National School Backpack Awareness Day

National School Backpack Awareness Day on September 21, strives to make sure students wear backpacks safely. Improper use can lead to back pain or injury, which can impact learning. On this day, teachers, students, and parents come together to make sure families are aware of the risks — and that backpacks are being worn properly.
